Transformation is taking place on Ware Street as we join God in building His Church.

After a season of prayer and discernment, we have made the nearly unanimous decision to buy Peace Lutheran Church in the heart of Abbotsford’s City Centre.

Since the start, we were committed to a permanent home for our Abbotsford Campus — a place where the city sees the church not as a relic of the past, but as a living, breathing hope for the future.

This church property in the heart of Abbotsford is that opportunity. A symbol. A home. A launchpad for the next generation of gospel flourishing in our city.

Where We
Started.

We’re convinced that God’s church doesn’t have a mission; but that God’s mission has a church. The Apostle Paul, one of the greatest church planters in history, had a relatively simple strategy. He would go into growing and influential cities and plant churches there. He knew that one of the most potent ways to see transformation was through planting local churches where disciples of Jesus could be embedded into their local community. The people of God, participating in the Kingdom of God, to see on earth as in heaven.

In the fall of 2024, we launched a CLA campus in Abbotsford. We had five months to pull it all together — build teams, find a venue, gather people, cast vision. We launched with 35 committed people. What began as a small, committed community has grown into a vibrant, Spirit-led campus of nearly 180 people. Along the way, we’ve seen people come to faith, community form, and a deep sense of belonging take shape.

Where We’re Going.

This building would enable us to expand the breadth of our ministry work beyond Sundays and Life Groups to a more holistic, integrated model of the local church that joins God in transformation.

As we look toward the future, we believe that this new location will be a beacon of light for our city, a home for generations to come, and a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Why would we buy a building for our Abbotsford Campus?

A Symbol To The City

The city has a vision of human flourishing in Abbotsford, but we know true flourishing can’t happen without the local church. We have a desire to see this historic church property continue as a beacon of hope and gospel flourishing in the city. Church buildings like this are symbols to the city; We feel a spiritual responsibility to re-capture this building as a symbol to Abbotsford that the church is not a part of the past, but the future of our city.

A Rootedness In The City

There’s a difference between renting and owning. A building would give us a rooted presence in the city. We are deeply committed to Abbotsford. Its streets, neighbourhoods, and people. We desire to reflect Christ’s love, mercy, and justice in practical ways and to contribute to the flourishing of the city through our Abbotsford Campus in a way that permanence in the city-centre can offer.

Expanded Ministry In The City

This building would enable us to expand the breadth of our ministry work beyond Sundays and Life Groups to a more holistic, integrated model of the local church that joins God in transformation. Our dream is to see this facility becoming a hub for mid-week ministry for our campus to thrive, a centre of Justice & Mercy for marginalized people through CityServe and Recovery Church expressions, ministry for families through expanded Next Gen opportunities with our Kids Ministry, and future opportunities to see Youth and Young Adult ministry take shape. Evangelism efforts through outreach ministry efforts and Alpha, as well as spiritual formation through classes, bible studies, and discipleship pathways.

A House
of Prayer.

Interior of a church with wooden ceiling beams, rows of pews with hymnals, a cross on the wall, a pulpit, and a red carpeted aisle.

Contending in prayer
for a move of God in our day.

As we look through church history, we see that the church was at its best, and God His most glorious, when His people sought Him in humble, desperate, passionate prayer. Our desire is to see the Church on Ware Street become a house of prayer that fuels our ministry efforts in the city.

As we embark on this process, we’re believing God will guide us and lead us through every step. This is his church, his vision, his project, and we will faithfully follow.

We ask that you would join us in prayer as we continue this journey. We are grateful for the opportunity to build the church of Jesus and the small part we get to play in the greater story he is telling.
